China-sponsored program empowers young train drivers in Africa

Overview:

Ethiopian train driver Anketsebrhan Girma, inspired by China's modern trains, fulfilled her childhood dream of operating an electrified train on the Ethiopia-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway. She and 27 colleagues underwent six months of training in China, where she praised her Chinese teachers for their support and mentorship. The training program, part of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative, has equipped Ethiopian trainees with essential skills, transforming them into the backbone of the Ethiopia-Djibouti Railway, cutting shipping time and costs, and significantly aiding Ethiopia's import-export industry.
